A New Year and continued Hope!

God’s provision this past year for the foundation is evident. Even during change (leadership, methods of operation, global push against Godly things), we see the hand of God sustaining this work in Guatemala. The concepts/slogans of living justly, loving mercy, walking humbly with God – Loving Him and Loving Others are not just things to say, but instead, these are anchoring points to this influential work.

Based on what we have seen, we hope for the coming year. The local and international team ministry plans are underway to impact Antigua and Guatemala.

Iglesia Del Camino has weekly activities between Sundays and days of the week to encourage and strengthen relationships with Jesus Christ. Through his gift of the Holy Spirit (Counselor), who gives us purpose.

IDCmissions brings more extensive community involvement opportunities to reach out to those not necessarily involved with our church. International teams have a base of operations to come to and reach out beyond themselves. Helping people they do not know.

ElévateGuatemala is an educational community outreach program serving the 150 or so families of Santiago Zamora, Aguas Calientes, Sacatepéquez. While averaging 40-60 preschool and elementary-aged children in program attendance, the programs are open to all community children.

These past years have given us reason to stop looking beyond ourselves and helping others, but that is not what we do. That is not who we want to be. Instead, we choose obedience to our call despite what the enemy (that which opposes God and His generosity) would have us do. We are thankful for the opportunities that we have and invite you to continue and/or join us in this journey as we take on every opportunity for the Glory of God.

As you wish to get involved we have options. Come, do, and see this work in action. Empower this work with resourcing for housing for families, clean water for communities, and food for the hungry implemented by one of our action teams. Share this with 5 of your best friends and watch how God grows this work through your involvement.

    Back to School

School is back in Guatemala. By February of 2022, the schools are expecting to have kids in the classrooms for the first time after March of 2020.

We want to thank Fruit Cove Baptist church for donating, 20 backpacks and school supplies for kids to go to school next year, and also to Life Austin Church for making kids masks.

We had the opportunity to visit again the community of Chimachoy, it was good to see 20 kids waiting for us. The highlight of this day was when all of them stood and start praying for us, and for Fruit Cove Baptist Church and Life Austin Church.  The kids now are so happy and excited to go back to school, a good reason isn’t it?

Covid still is here, but thanks God the numbers are going down, and the country is no longer in Stage 2, or Orange zone, we are in a yellow zone.

We still have time if you are interested in sponsoring a backpack and school supplies, for the cost of $55.00 Just let us know and we will be happy to help you.

    “Your donation isn’t a gift, it’s a game-changer”.

A  Team Visit from Church on the Rock

A long-time ministry partner returned to Antigua this week. Church on the Rock from Florida brought a ministry team to reach out to Antigua. Day-to-day activities ranged from events for local law enforcement, civil duty officers, children, and building homes for those that need shelter. Presentations of the gospel and testimonies were shared by various team members.

Thank you, Church on the Rock, for going beyond yourselves.

    Providing a comfortable bed

We have seen God’s provision and his faithfulness around us this year.

Many friends have sent money to sponsor money for bunk beds. We want to shout out to Southport Church and dear friend Michael Isenberg and many others for always helping and reaching the communities, even through the distance.

Southport Church and others, during this past summer, raised money, and thanks to their effort, six more families now have bunk beds. As always, going into their homes, seeing how they live, and being able to be part of this small change for these families, is a blessing for us.

We continue partnering with the Municipality of Pastores, the community of San Antonio Aguas Calientes,  San Pedro las Huertas and our brother and sister in Christ Nolo and Rachel Garcia, and of course, our Iglesia Del Camino family.

Thank you, friends, and Southport for your donation, going beyond yourselves.

ActionTeam Update: IDCmissions – New Ministry Partner

by the IDCmissions Team – September 1, 2021

    Iglesia Evangelica Pentecostes

We are trilled to partner with our dear friend Pastor Fernando Cael from Iglesia Evangelica Pentecostes in the community of Chimachoy, Itzapa Chimaltenango. This little village is near the Volcano Fuego, west of Guatemala City, and 45 minutes from Antigua. Pastor Cael has four daughters and four sons, between 23 years old to 6 years old.

25 families attend church and 35 kids.

IDC leadership painted their church, shared in bible study, and gave bibles to the pastor for his work in Itzapa. It was a blessed experience for us to be together serving this community. Serving has a powerful impact on our hearts.

We were not expecting to be fed by the pastor’s family. However, his wife and daughters woke up early and cooked Hilachas and homemade corn tortillas for the team. After working for the morning, it was good to eat with them and hear their experiences—a wonderful time. God is good. Even in the small touches, we can see his love and, most importantly, the grace He has for all of us.

The church is thrilled to partner with us, and we are excited for you to come to Guatemala and meet them and be part of this change.

    FamilyPhoto

Meet the Hernandez Family – Marlon (31), Maria Taj (24), Alejandro (7), and Santiago (2). A young family that lives in San Antonio Aguas Calientes Sacatepequez, 30 minutes from Antigua Guatemala. They have been renting a small structure with an open room and kitchen, and the four of them sleep in the same bed.

While they own a small piece of land, resourcing has prevented them from building a home that provides security. Marlon, while skilled in various trades – construction, electricity, maintenance, gardening – has no full-time work. But is called on at different times for various day labor positions. Maria takes care of the children and also does some jobs outside of the home as she is able. The children go to school for two days, and the rest of the week is at home with Maria doing homework. They attend a local evangelical church as they are able, in light of pandemic restrictions.

    ___________________________

This scenario is not uncommon for many of those on our list of recipients waiting for a house. For one reason or another, they are hardworking people who have found themselves in a place I call “stuckness.” We have seen that this simple bump in circumstance alters the trajectory of their lives.

When doing philanthropic work, more often than not, the focus is the need and the resolution that organizations like MilCasas – The Project has provided, and we miss what God has done in the lives of those who stepped up on behalf of the recipients. But, to be clear, resourcing for these homes has relied heavily on donations and funds received from people and organizations alike.

Meet the Gonzalez family, a single-income family. Read their story in this open letter to theIDC. This story of the donor is shared not for personal glory, but as Manuel Gonzalez tells us, God spoke to him and said, “I want this to be an inspiration to others.”

    ___________________________

“In early 2019, our church announced a mission trip to Guatemala, and I instantly knew I was going! All I knew about the trip was we were building a house and doing VBS. I went to bless, and it turned out to be that I was the blessed one! The IDC left a big impression on me!

On the flight home, I started thinking of building another house, not me but our church! Then it went from I can do this, to I need to do this! I didn’t know how God was going to provide, but that wasn’t my problem! I just kept repeating, “Yes Lord, here I am, use me.”

I still say that to Him today. It took almost exactly two years for Him to provide for the first house, and what a blessing it was to us! When I saw the video and pics of the family and the house construction, I showed them to my wife. It touched our lives. It’s a fantastic feeling to be a part of what God is doing and especially that He would use someone like us! You’d think that’s it. At least I did!

I went back to working on a project car, a 1949 Ford Custom Coupe that I had purchased the year before. It’s how I earn some extra money, and it keeps me out of trouble. I get them back on the road, enjoy them, and then I find new owners for them. All the while sharing the gospel with the people I encounter while working on these projects.

It was getting to be time to find a new owner for the 49′. My thoughts were to get what I had in it and hopefully a little extra for me! But, then I heard the Lord again, “That car is going to build another house with the profits. Contact theIDC, ask them to pray with you for a buyer”.

Guess what? As I am typing this letter, a second house is being built in Guatemala by the good folks at IDC! All because of “Here I am, Lord use me.” He wants to use us, you and me! Is this the last house our family is going to sponsor? I hope not. I would like very much to return someday to Guatemala with my wife, help with the construction of another house, and be blessed by God’s work through IDC.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this ministry.

    Blessings,

    Gonzalez Family

The Hernandez Family has a new house, and the trajectory of their lives is forever changed. All because of “Here I am, Lord use me.”
